Persons who would like to see one of nature’s most famous works of art may choose to go to Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park in Portage County, Ohio. This park can be accessed from U.S. Route 422 and State Route 305 via State Route 282.
The park’s trademark ledges resulted from decades of erosion including winds, water freezing and melting, which wore away the rock layers. These layers eventually resulted to rock formations and ledges which can now be seen in all the area.
The park’s grounds are perfect place for picnics and while in the picnic site, guests may roam around the tree species that are present such as the Canadian hemlock, yellow birch, and Canada yew, and view a variety of songbirds and small mammals like foxes and squirrels.
In addition, visitors can also hike along the trails which run for approximately 3 miles in the area. To provide assistance to hikers, the park’s administrative body has created a color-coding system: white for easy trails, yellow and blue for relatively difficult ones, and red for extremely difficult trails. The park is open from dawn to dusk, and hiking at night is not allowed.
